On May 29, 2017, Major Mahama a serving military officer lost his life when a mob attacked him at Denkyira-Obuasi while on duty.

It has been over six years since the incident, however on Monday, 29th January, 2024, after closing arguments, the jury found 12 of the 14 accused persons guilty.

The then-Assemblyman, William Baah was among the 12 who were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The mother of the Late Major Mahama expressed satisfaction with the verdict.

THE JURY SYSTEM OUGHT TO BE ELIMINATED

Monday, 29th January 2024

The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has advocated for the jury system to be scrapped. In his opinion, the jury system contributes to delays in criminal cases. He mentioned instances where trial cases are put on hold due to a juror’s absence. He said this at a meeting with the family of the Late Major Mahama.
