Lady Reverend Irene Chiaki Korley-Ayerteye Esq. Unveils Two Legal Textbooks on International Trade & Investment and Contract Law

Lady Reverend Irene Chiaki Korley-Ayerteye Esq, a distinguished lecturer in International Trade and Investment Law at Ghana’s premier private law faculty, MountCrest University College, has launched two legal books aimed at enriching scholarship and deepening the understanding of contemporary legal issues in Ghana and beyond.

The two books, titled “International Trade and Investment Law from an African Perspective: Principles, Practice and Policy” and “Principles of Contract Law in Ghana”, were launched at the British Council on Wednesday, 26th August 2026.

The publications represent a significant contribution to legal scholarship, particularly in the areas of international trade and investment law and the law of contract in Ghana.

The first book, International Trade and Investment Law from an African Perspective: Principles, Practice and Policy, examines the legal framework governing the movement of goods, services, capital and ideas across borders, with particular emphasis on Africa’s position within the global trading order.

The book takes readers through the various dimensions of international trade and investment law, beginning with the relationship between a buyer and a seller and extending to the World Trade Organization system that provides the broader framework within which international commercial transactions operate. It further explores the regulation of investment and intellectual property, dispute resolution, as well as emerging areas of law relating to digital trade, the environment and climate change.

The second publication, Principles of Contract Law in Ghana, is a comprehensive textbook designed primarily for students pursuing the Bachelor of Laws degree. The book adopts a systematic approach to the study of contract law by following the natural life of a contract.

Divided into six parts and seventeen chapters, the book addresses the foundations of contract law, formation, contents of contracts, factors that may vitiate contracts, discharge and remedies for breach. Each part begins with an introduction which situates the subject matter within the broader scheme of the law of contract, making the book a useful guide for students and others seeking a structured understanding of contract law in Ghana.

The launch was chaired by the highly respected Professor Date-Bah, a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. The occasion was also graced by distinguished personalities including Mr. Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law and Founder of MountCrest University College, Mrs. Helena Ansa-Asare, Co-founder of MountCrest University College, and the Registrar of MountCrest University.

Members of the Ghana Bar, law students and members of the general public were also present to celebrate the author and her contribution to legal education and scholarship.

The launch brought together leading figures from Ghana’s legal and academic communities, reflecting the continuing importance of accessible and contextually relevant legal scholarship in Ghana.

Through the two publications, Lady Reverend Irene Chiaki Korley-Ayerteye Esq. brings together academic analysis and practical perspectives on two important areas of law. While International Trade and Investment Law from an African Perspective situates Africa within the evolving global economic and legal order, Principles of Contract Law in Ghana provides students with a structured foundation for understanding one of the most fundamental areas of private law.

The publications are therefore expected to serve as valuable resources for law students, academics, legal practitioners and other persons interested in the development of commercial and private law in Ghana and the wider African legal landscape.
