On Tuesday, November 18, 2025 Legal Associates (ALA), one of Ghana’s leading Corporate and Commercial law firms, celebrated its 10th anniversary , with a high-level Business Breakfast Meeting at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. Held under the theme “From Accra to Africa: Turning AfCFTA Promise into Commercial Growth for Ghanaian Companies,” the event brought together senior executives, policymakers, lawyers, business leaders, and development finance institutions to reflect on ALA’s decade-long journey and the evolving role of Pan-African law firms in the AfCFTA era.
Founded in 2015 by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Nana Adjoa Hackman, ALA has built a strong reputation in finance, energy, infrastructure, technology, and international business transactions. In his keynote address, Senior Partner Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko recounted the firm’s origins, paying tribute to mentors, clients, and colleagues who shaped its growth. He explained that ALA was established to minimize involvement in protracted litigation, which he described as often frustrating justice, and instead focus on delivering timely, business-friendly solutions.
He further urged African law firms to unite in building a robust Pan-African legal infrastructure to support the continent’s single market under AfCFTA. He also highlighted ALA’s expansion through Africa Law Practice International (ALPi), a network spanning 10 African countries namely Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Namibia, Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire. ALPi is in Guyana, and plans to open a new office in Luanda, Angola.
The anniversary event featured goodwill messages from distinguished partners and stakeholders. Olasupo Shasore, Senior Partner at ALP Nigeria, commended ALA’s milestone and partnership, while Lord Marland of Odstock, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, praised the firm’s achievements and encouraged it to leverage AfCFTA and Commonwealth networks.
Co-founder and Managing Partner Nana Adjoa Hackman reflected on ALA’s growth from its early days in Labone to becoming a globally recognized firm, emphasizing the importance of treating legal practice as a business and focusing on strategic growth alongside client service.
Looking ahead, ALA reaffirmed its commitment to it’s vision of delivering commercially focused legal solutions across the continent. Partner Ebow Brew-Hammond noted the firm’s ethos of prioritizing practical outcomes that allow clients to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
Over the past decade, ALA has also engaged in thought leadership and community outreach, including webinars, public education on legal rights, and discussions on emerging issues such as Artificial Intelligence(AI) and ESG. With its Pan-African vision and expanding global partnerships, ALA is poised to deepen its influence in shaping Africa’s commercial legal landscape.
