Ridge Accra; In a solemn but uplifting address delivered at the Call to the Bar ceremony on Friday, 9 May 2025, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, exhorted newly enrolled lawyers to uphold the noblest ideals of the legal profession and to be active catalysts for reform, innovation, and public trust in the justice system.
The occasion, which marked the formal admission of 123 new lawyers to the Ghana Bar, was held at the Accra International Conference Centre and attended by eminent members of the legal fraternity, as well as family and well-wishers of the inductees.

In his address, the learned Justice of the Supreme Court reminded the new lawyers that the privilege of legal practice must not be reduced to the mere pursuit of pecuniary gain. Rather, it constitutes a sacred call to service—a duty to uphold the rule of law, to protect the vulnerable, and to defend the constitutional ideals of justice and equality
“The call to the bar is a call to service, do not turn justice into a commodity. It is a value which is earned, preserved and sometimes defended with courage” the acting Chief Justice stated.
He encouraged the newly qualified lawyers to eschew self-interest and to make deliberate efforts to engage with their communities, particularly by identifying the unmet legal needs of the disadvantaged and marginalised. He stressed the importance of pro bono legal service, underscoring its role in strengthening public confidence in the legal system.

Further, His Lordship urged the legal inductees to be champions of reform and innovation, noting that the justice system must evolve to meet the demands of an increasingly complex society. As fresh legal minds, he observed, they possess the unique advantage of vigour and conviction—qualities essential for transforming the legal landscape into one that is more transparent, efficient, and just.
The Acting Chief Justice concluded by congratulating the new lawyers for successfully completing the rigorous Professional Legal Education programme, encouraging them to tread the challenging but honourable path of legal practice with integrity, diligence, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
As they embark on this professional journey, 233Legal joins the legal fraternity in wishing them success, wisdom, and courage in the discharge of their duties—as officers of the court and guardians of the public good.
