Hey There!
I always watch law-related series, it’s what I casually do, almost every day – a core part of my schedule. Probably because that is my escapism whenever I am taking my daily study sessions. I never have a dull moment. Whenever you see me, it is either I am done with an insightful movie, or my mind is saturated with multiple questions and expectations from a series I am currently watching. And it’s not just the entertainment for me, I actually learn from the series. When I started studying law, I got a different appreciation for legal drama because I could now relate and appreciate same.
Here are the top 5 series I’d recommend for every law enthusiast.
1. SUITS
Suits is a must-watch. I recommend it for its clear depiction of the legal profession. It really elevates the profession: the luxurious offices, the posh lawyers, the clever remarks, and oh, the style and fashion. The actors Harvey Specter, Jessica Pearson, and Donna Paulson have impeccable style. Suits also offers insights into law firm management and power play in selection of partners. One key lesson in Suits is that there is always a solution to client’s problem, even though that is not entirely realistic. This kind of perception instigates one to explore outside the box and to creatively solve complex legal issues. And the dialogues? Truly sensational!
2. HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
In my opinion, it stands out as one of the finest criminal law series. This series demonstrates the vital role defense strategies play in determining the outcome of cases. The show focuses on tactics like establishing solid alibis, challenging witnesses’ credibility, examining forensic evidence, and creating persuasive storylines to influence the jury. It also explores the ethical dilemmas that lawyers have to deal with in defending clients.
3. LINCOLN LAWYER
Most recent of the legal series, Lincoln Lawyer informs about the importance of thorough investigation and strategic legal thinking. The series showcases the challenges and ethical dilemmas defense attorneys face and provides a glimpse into the world of criminal defense and the dedication required to thrive in that area. It also brings to fore that despite the clear ethical restraint on lawyers, they sometimes go over the ethical threshold becoming entangled with clients (in particular pretty women and rich clients) leading to unsavory outcomes. Again, Lincoln Lawyer depicts the exposure of legal practitioners to assault and battery in the pursuit of their clients cause. Highly recommended.
4. BOSTON LEGAL
This is highly recommended for all legal series enthusiasts. By most accounts, it is unarguably the best legal series because of its top-notch courtroom scenes, the clever dialogues, and captivating plots. Again, it explores complex legal issues which make it both entertaining and informative. Furthermore, this series underscores a salient fact of legal practice: the rich tend to have access to the best defense/counsel. Great Series.
5. ANATOMY OF A SCANDAL
Although not a legal series in the strict sense, some aspect of it touches and concern the sexual offense of Rape. In fact, the definition of rape as the penetration of “VAMP” without consent in the series resonates with me. Treating viewers to quintessential traditions of Jury trial in England, the series sheds light on the challenging process of proving rape incidents(ie the complicated question of consent) and conversely, the potential for wrongful accusations.
