High Court Dismisses NAM1’S Submission of No Case

An Accra High Court has dismissed the submission of no case filed by Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, the CEO of the defunct Menzgold. The court ruled that a prima facie case (a case that appears to be true) has been made against the accused.

The accused is facing with 39 charges including selling of gold without a license, operating an unauthorized deposit-taking business, inducing investment under false pretense, fraudulent breach of trust and money laundering.

Following the ruling, Nana Appiah Mensah would now open his case and state his side of the matter. 

Ghana Prevails At International Arbitration

9th July, 2024

The International Arbitration Tribunal has delivered its final award in the case of ENI and Vitol versus Republic of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). The arbitration tribunal denied ENI and Vitol their monetary claim which was  pegged at $7billion and later reviewed to $915 million. 

The tribunal also rejected ENI and Vitol request to declare that Ghana breached the Petroleum Agreement by not withdrawing or preventing reliance on the unitization directives by third parties. 

According to the press release by the Attorney General, the claim of the ENI AND Vitol did not find favor with the Arbitral tribunal.

Texas Judges block Biden Protection for LGBTQ Students

12th July, 2024.

Two conservative judges in Texas have blocked the Biden administration from enforcing anti-discrimination regulations for LGBTQ students. 

The ruling from the Texas court follows similar rulings by three conservative Judges in Kansas, Kentucky and Louisiana who have also blocked similar government regulations.

Trump Asks Court to Toss Out Conviction after Immunity Decision

12th July, 2024.

Lawyers for Donald Trump have asked a New York judge to toss out his hush money conviction following the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. According to Trump lawyers, his conviction on falsifying business records was tainted with testimonies that (under the new standard set by the supreme court landmark ) should not have been allowed at trial.
