On December 2, 2024, the Greater Accra Bar hosted an enlightening orientation program for newly enrolled lawyers within the Greater Accra Region. The event was graced by Efua Ghartey, National President GBA, Victoria Barth National Vice President GBA and Isabel Boaten, President of the Greater Accra Bar. Other distinguished attendees included Ace Ankomah Adelaide Benneh Prempeh, Prof. Raymond Atugubah and Sheila M. Premo.
In her keynote address, Isabel Boaten underscored the paramount importance of legal practitioners giving back to society. She emphasised the pivotal role of lawyers as architects of societal change and challenged the new lawyers to embrace their responsibilities with humility, diligence, and a deep sense of service. Her remarks resonated as a call to action for the newly enrolled members of the Bar to contribute meaningfully to the betterment of their communities and uphold the noble traditions of the legal profession.
Ace Ankomah, Senior Partner at Bentil-Enchil, Letsa & Ankomah, delivered an engaging discourse on the art of dispute resolution. Drawing from his extensive experience, he highlighted the symbiotic relationship between teaching and learning in mastering the law, observing that “the best way to learn is to teach.” Mr. Ankomah further stressed the importance of thorough preparation as the bedrock of success in legal practice. Similarly, Adelaide Benneh Prempeh, Partner at B&P Associates, spoke on the transformative power of cultivating the right mindset and habits early in one’s legal career, underscoring the significance of teamwork, effective communication, and continuous learning.
Victoria Barth, Vice President of the Ghana Bar Association, echoed these sentiments, placing a premium on the value of integrity in legal practice. She reminded the new lawyers that their reputation is their most enduring asset, exhorting them to uphold the core ethical principles of honesty, competence, and professionalism.
Since its inception in 2016, the mentorship and orientation programme of the Greater Accra Bar has provided a platform for newly enrolled lawyers to gain insights from seasoned practitioners across various fields of legal expertise. This year’s edition was a testament to the Bar’s enduring commitment to equipping young lawyers with the skills, values, and perspectives necessary to excel in the demanding yet rewarding practice of law. premnpeh further highlighted the importance of both hard and soft skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication and encouraged young lawyers to embrace lawyers and remain committed to continuous learning.
