Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, at the 61st Call to the Bar Ceremony, encouraged newly enrolled lawyers to explore pupillage beyond the Greater Accra Region. She asserted that pursuing Pupillage in various regions could offer invaluable experience and exposure helping shape the legal system for Ghana..

Pupillage provides newly qualified lawyers hands-on experience. It involves working on real cases, honing skills in advocacy, drafting, and courtroom presence as a foundational step toward licensure. This period also fosters a meaningful mentorship connection between seasoned lawyers and new lawyers.

The Chief Justice’s advice is timely and commendable as Ghana’s sixteen (16) regions present unique legal challenges and opportunities. By embracing this diversity, young lawyers-who take advantage of this diversity- can gain a broader understanding of the law’s practical applications which will ultimately lead to a holistic development of Ghana’s legal system.

As these newly qualified lawyers begin their pupillage, 233legal urges them to heed the Chief Justice’s advice: seek out new challenges and responsibilities to maximise their learning and growth. We further urge them to build strong mentorship relationships with experienced lawyers and continuously strive to enhance their skills.
