THREE ACQUITTED AND SIX SENTENCED TO DEATH IN TREASON MATTER.

A treason trial held at the High Court in Accra concluded with six people, sentenced to death for a coup plot. However, due to lack of evidence, the court acquitted Chief Benjamin Agordzo, Army Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli and Corporal Seidu Abubakar.

Francis Xavier Sosu, a human right lawyer, clearly displeased about the outcome called the verdict retrogressive. This would be the first treason trial since February 1966 following the coup of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
