The Ghana Bar Association’s 2025 Annual Conference opens today in Wa under the theme “Sustaining the 4th Republican Constitutional Democracy; The Role of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession.” The event has drawn 1,265 lawyers from across the country, participating both in person and virtually.
The Opening Ceremony, scheduled at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), will set the tone for a week of plenary sessions, lectures, and continuing legal education programmes. A highlight of the Conference is the keynote address by H.E. Anna Bossman, former Ambassador to France, who will speak on the central role of the judiciary and the legal profession in safeguarding democratic governance.

Beyond the formal sessions, the Conference includes community engagements such as legal outreach to senior high schools and the commissioning of a borehole project at Dodiyiri. Social and cultural events, including a Black-Tie Dinner, health walk, and tours of Jirapa Dubai, have also been lined up to enrich the experience of participants.
The Wa Conference is expected to provide a forum for critical reflection on the independence of the judiciary, the integrity of the legal profession, and the broader constitutional framework, while reinforcing the GBA’s role as a vital stakeholder in Ghana’s democratic journey.
